A Brief History
Llanrhos Old School was built in 1822 to provide education for children in the hamlet of Llanrhos on the outskirts of Llandudno, but closed in 1898 when a larger school was built at Deganwy, since when it functioned mainly as a church hall for St Hilary's Parish Church, which is opposite.
However, the Grade-II listed building fell into disrepair, and in 2009 the “then” vicar of Llanrhos, the Reverend Prebendary Bob Griffiths, formed a volunteer group to start a fundraising initiative, with Mr Dave Rowley as Chairman of the Fundraising Committee. In 2011, after undergoing a £240,000 restoration project, Llanrhos Old School gained a new lease of life and has since been enthusiastically supported by the local community. Unfortunately, Dave Rowley passed away in 2023; however, the Reverend Prebendary Bob Griffiths brings his experience to the Llanrhos Management Committee as Vice Chairman.
Despite a devastating period of closure during Covid, and the recent unprecedented energy costs, the Management Committee continues to strategically steer the venue carefully to facilitate longevity. This would not be possible without grant support from various funders.
